College Football Power Rankings

I meant to put this out before the season started but didn't end up getting to it.  Luckily, after the first week of college football nothing has changed here.  I am giving my top five teams in college as seen by The Jeff Report.

5. Iowa –Iowa returns 14 starters including man-child Adrian Claiborn who has got to be the favorite for Big 10 defensive player of the year. Kirk Ferentz is one of the best coaches in the country, especially when it comes to getting the most out of his players, and he always his team grounded and ready for everything. Iowa is on a tear the last two years winning 15 of their last 17 games and could be a dark horse national title contender, especially with their favorable Big 12 11 10 schedule giving them Penn State, Wisconsin, and Ohio State at home.  An impressive win against an inferior opponent in week 1 solidifies them in the top 5.

4. Texas – 14 returning starters. It’s hard to think Texas could recover after losing great players like Sergio Kindle, Earl Thomas, and all time wins leader Colt McCoy.  However, new QB Garrett Gilbert got good experience in the National Championship Game last year against Alabama and Texas always is stacked on D.  Mack Brown just reloads this program year after year.
3. Ohio State – OSU returns 15 starters including big time QB Terelle Pryor who is quickly maturing and rounding out his game much more than the one dimensional game he had when he arrived in Columbus. OSU only has Iowa to worry about in Big 12 11 10, and OSU, as always, will have a strong D.

2. Alabama – 10 starters return from a National Championship team to defend including the Heisman trophy winner and QB.  Their backup running back Trent Richardson may even be better than Heisman trophy winner Mark Ingram, giving them a very dynamic offense.

And the number 1 team in the country is...

1. Boise State – BSU returns a ridiculous 23 starters including one of the most efficient QB’s in the nation who has straight ice water in his veins. BSU brings back a solid D and running game.  After early battles against Va. Tech and Oregon State, they have an extremely favorable schedule.  If they go undefeated there is very good chance they are playing in the National Championship game.  After defeating Va. Tech last night in thrilling fashion they have to get past Oregon State and then manager the rest of their schedule as they did last year and they are in the National Championship.  If they don't make it, it is a travesty.
