The NBA Starts Tonight - Which Side are You On?

You're either a "Kobe guy" or a "Lebron guy" - you can't be both

For those of you who frequent the Jeff Report, you know that I don’t really care all that much for the NBA.  I don’t think the players play as hard as college (overall), I don’t think it’s as compelling as College Basketball, and finally, even if all that wasn’t true, there is no team in KC so I have nobody to root for.  However, being the sports enthusiast that I am, and in recognition of the start of the NBA season tonight, I will delve into an issue that is paramount for most NBA fans.

If you are a follower of the NBA then you are in one of two camps.  Every fan puts themselves into noe of these categories and stands proudly by it no matter the circumstance.  So whether it’s being accused of rape or “taking their talents to South Beach,” whatever camp they’re in NBA fans will stand strong in their ardent support.  Those two camps are Lebron James and Kobe Bryant, and every NBA fan, regardless of their team, is either a “Lebron guy” or a “Kobe guy.”

What exactly does it mean to be one or the other, really?  Well generally there is one trait people choose identify with when talking about these two.  If you’re a “Lebron guy” then you tend to like the pure/raw athleticism.  The “Lebron guy” was a big fan of Jordan’s younger years where he just overpowered and outathleted everyone.  Tongue wagging, jump from the free throw line dunking, pushing off, original three-peat Jordan was who you liked the best and Lebron reminds you of him (minus the championships).

The “Kobe guy” tends to like the pure raw competitiveness where he just wants to turn everybody on the court into fat kid from The Goonies.  Couple that with his study of the game and the “Kobe guy” gets really geeked.  The “Kobe guy’s” favorite Jordan was “the Return of Jordan” Jordan, where he stopped overpowering people and used his savvy and learned skills to dominate.  This is when Jordan developed the forever unstoppable fade away jumper and completely reinvented himself to solidify himself as the absolute most dominant player in NBA history.  That is what truly made Jordan “hall of fame great” as opposed to just great, and that is what the “Kobe guy” points to as to why he is better.

So I ask all the loyal readers of the Jeff Report, what kind of a guy are you?  Is it Lebron or Kobe?  Cast your vote in the poll at the top and leave your comment below.

  1. Your write up sounds like you're a Kobe guy. I certainly am. Lebron just wants to do jaw-dropping things on the court and wants to be liked. He won the genetic lottery, whoopty-do. Kobe refines his craft, studies his opponents, and ruthlessly wants to embarrass them. He certainly is cut from the post-retirement Jordan cloth. And Kobe, not Lebron, has the guts of a burglar.

  2. I think I want to be a Lebron guy, despite his arrogance (which Kobe has too) I feel he's a better guy, but that doesn't really matter on the court. If you had to put the ball in somebody's hands at the end of the game I would take Kobe and his fadeaway is Jordan esque, and there are few things I love like an unstoppable fade away.
