A little bit better....Chiefs get their first win!!!!!
Well it was a long time coming and a rough road but finally, over a month into the season, the Chiefs have their first win. As great of a feeling as this is, and it is great, like the other games there were good and bad things about this one.
We will start with the good:
Glenn Dorsey - Yet again Dorsey has impressed with his ability to make plays at or behind the line of scrimmage and get pressure on the quarterback. I said it last week and I will say it again, when this D comes around Dorsey will be the centerpiece.
Tyson Jackson - He didn't do much, but he is starting to hold his ground a little more and even batted down a pass. Finally showing signs of life after six weeks is good for the 3rd pick in the draft right? Right?
Linebackers - Their play continues to improve. The front 7, once looked at as the major, glaring weakness on this team, is now somewhat of a strength. A few more players to fill some roles and this D will be formidable.
Dwayne Bowe - The man showed up to play. He didn't get a TD but he had 6 catches for 109 yards and made some pretty big plays.
Matt Cassel - Again, showed good toughness and leadership.
And now for the bad:
Dwayne Bowe - Still had two HUGE drops and is still plagued by inconsistency.
Secondary - What was once considered a strength is now somewhat of a weakness. We have two good cornerbacks and my hope for the draft is to draft Eric Berry. He has Ed Reed like abilities and could complete/make legitimate our secondary.
Defense - Still has many of the same struggles.
Offense - Can't develop the run game, can't get much going in the passing game, can't score points, stalls in the red zone. Needs improvement.
Matt Cassel - Still completing less than 60% of his passes his accuracy has worried me all season. He constantly throws high and that is a bad thing. Now, that being said, give him a good O-line and some receivers and he should be OK.
Final Thoughts:
A win is a win and I will take it but the Chiefs certainly have a long way to go before they are a legitimate NFL team again. The coaching is starting to get better and it seems as though the players are starting to settle in, buy into the system, and do well in their role. I look forward to seeing the improvements the Chiefs make the rest of the way through the season.
