As one of my most ambitious posts ever I am going to attempt to rank all 32 NFL teams 1-32. I have always been one to voice my opinion on what teams are the best or who I think will win the Super Bowl, but never actually sat down and ranked them all one by one. Finally, here it is. Keep in mind how epic this is, this is my white whale. Please let me know how bad my ranking is…
Let’s go from worst to first, cause it’s more fun that way. We’ll start with the group of teams that I have termed as “can’t be helped.” These teams are coming off an atrocious debacle of a season and there is very little to no hope coming in the next season or two.
My rankings will start after the jump...
Can’t Be Helped
32. St. Louis Rams - This team was 1-15 for a reason. They have a terrible defense, a suspect offensive line, no proven QB, decent but unproven young WR's, nothing really besides Steven Jackson, and they are riding him like Zorro, and much like the masked rider himself Jackson will soon be a thing of the past. The rebuilding effort that's taking place will take way too long for Jackson to reap any benefits. The best thing they can do is trade him for some draft picks and help with the process. Get rid of him now and you could get two 1's and a 2 for him. Oh yeah, and I'm not sold on Sam Bradford. He was the benefit of a good offense and a QB friendly system. I fail to see too many differences between him and Graham Harrell besides a couple extra inches and a slightly stronger arm.
31. Detroit Lions - I actually like the direction this team is headed in but there is too much work to be done to be much better this season. The Lions' ceiling is 4 wins. However, 2-3 years from now they could be formidable, especially with Matt Stafford helming the offense. Stafford is a tough, solid leader who has all the tools to be an elite franchise QB in this league. Plus any time you have a player with the nickname "Megatron" (Calvin Johnson), you have to be headed in the right direction...have to be.
30. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - This is a team that is just in disarray. They completely dismantled everything last offseason and are trying to completely overhaul the organization. They are years from respectability. Raheem Morris is in way over head, moreso than any other coach in the league, and it doesn't quite seem like they have a true direction.
