After the last two weeks it is quite apparent, the there is no love lost between the Chiefs, Raiders and Broncos. About a month ago the Raiders ran roughshod over the Broncos and ripped them apart 59-14. No more than two weeks later the Chiefs came in to Oakland, took the game in to overtime and got kicked in the gut with a miracle catch by Jacoby Ford and field goal by Sebastian Janikowski. The game included 27 penalties (a record this season) and general nastiness between the two teams. After the game it was proclaimed “the rivalry is back.” With both teams relevant and playing such a tight contest, it would appear this to be true.People from my generation don’t like the Raiders, but we grew up with John Elway and the Broncos stomping on the Chiefs’ heart time and time again. None worse than the 1997 playoff game at Arrowhead where the 12-4 Broncos came in to beat the 13-3 Chiefs 14-10 and went on to win their first of two consecutive Super Bowls. Since then Mike Shanahan has made a hobby about trying to destroy the Chiefs in any way possible, even if that means cheating to do it (Vaseline on the jerseys, overriding the helmet microphone, chop blocks, etc.). The Chiefs went in to Denver last week and got it handed to them good in a 49-29 massacre that has the Chiefs in full on meltdown mode that we only hope they can recover from.
